A newspaper with a proud history…

Since the days of the 1893 Land Run, a newspaper has been serving Blackwell and Kay County readers.
The first publication was the Blackwell Eagle then 92 years ago today’s Journal-Tribune had its inception. The Daily World began in 1915 and published for four years then renamed the Daily Tribune.
In 1933 the Blackwell Journal began publishing and six years later the two merged to eventually become today’s Journal-Tribune.
For 67 years, the newspaper has been published at 113 East Blackwell Avenue. Today’s newspaper is a far cry from the original publication. Computers have replaced the lead type and offset printing took the place of the flatbed duplex Rotary Hoe press that is still in the basement of the newspaper.
Blackwell is a community of nearly 7,770 people located in the western part of Kay County. The historic community sits next to Interstate 35 and is only a short distance from Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Wichita, Kansas.
The Journal-Tribune also provides news coverage of various surrounding communities including Braman, Nardin, Pond Creek, Lamont, Deer Creek, Newkirk and Medford.
