Looking Back- Thinking Forward: Helen Seubert

by Dale McGaha

There isn’t a lot of people that have touched the lives of so many people for such a long time! We are talking about a really great citizen who just passed from this life – our dear friend, Helen Seubert. She was like a sister to me, so I’m going to refer to “Sister Helen” in the rest of this article. Sister Helen just turned 100 years young the day before her death. There again, millions of people do not get to this milestone.

In looking back at my 40 plus years of having the privilege of working with Helen, most of it as our joint service to the public at the Blackwell Journal-Tribune. Sister Helen and others were the main reason why our newspaper prospered. Helen’s expert advise was utilized and enjoyed by many. Helen could make a “hum-drum” story into a winning composition.

Sister Helen’s joyous and sincere smile was enjoyed by thousands who knew her. It was a very enjoyable experience to watch Helen set up a special group picture for many special civic organizations, or special events in her long career. I believe I can speak for many honored Northern Oklahoma citizens in saying, Helen will be sorely missed!
Our sincere sympathy and love goes out to her family and hundreds of friends, who will also miss her witty, humorous, intelligent and loving nature!
