t is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria DeLaLuz Avila. She was 87 years old. She passed peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, March 14, 2019 in Blackwell, OK. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 o’clock on the morning of Monday, March 18, 2019 At Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 415 S 7th Street, Ponca City . Father Deva Undrallca will lead the mass. Burial will follow at the Blackwell Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will include Tomas Avila and Juan Mata, Eric Avila, Caesar Avila, Jesus Avila and Gerardo Garcia. Juan Pablo Torres will be an honorary bearer. Reciting of the rosary, lead by Deacon Dick Robinson, will be held at Grace Memorial Chapel 2016 N 14th Street, Ponca City beginning at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 17. Friends are welcome to pay their respects at Grace Memorial Chapel on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Maria De La Luz Avila was born on September 4, 1931 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Hediberto Bojorquez and Maria Merced Madrid Bojorquez. She attended a small country school in Buena Vista Chihuahua until she was in the third grade. She then worked with her mother as a “Birth Giver” they would bundle up their gear in packs and carry it on their backs to the homes of expecting women. Maria assisted her mother with many births during her adolescent years. She met her husband, Tomas Avila, in Pintero. The couple move from there to El Cuidad de Juarez in Chihuahuah.

Maria moved to Blackwell because her children were here. She loved to travel back to Mexico. She also enjoyed cleaning the house and washing dishes. She liked to have music playing while she went about her day. Her favorite color was purple.

Maria leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Oscar Avila, Maria Magdalena Avila, Fernando Avila, Tomas Avila and his wife Rita, Olivia Mata and her husband Juan and Martha Alicia Peters and her husband Hugo. She also will be missed by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

She was reunited in heaven with her parents, husband, daughter Martha Olivia Avila, two brothers and five sisters.

She will be missed but not forgotten.
