Good Buy Shoppe seeks to help flood victims

May 29, 2019

As Kay County starts the long process of recovering from widespread flooding, one local store is overflowing with donated merchandise – and its workers are eager to help those displaced by severe weather.

The Good Buy Shoppe, a non-profit resale shop in Blackwell benefitting the Opportunity Center in Ponca City, has received “three households worth of stuff,” according to volunteer Judy Deffner.

“We've got so much stuff that I can hardly walk through the store,” said Deffner. “We'd like to see some new customers.”

The shop has a vast quantity of furniture, dishes, sheets, and clothes. Deffner added that volunteers are “always happy” to help flood victims and their families. Deffner asked those in need to stop by the shop to get what they need.

“We have an abundance of everything,” she said.

The store will hold a half-price sale during normal business hours today and will hold another one from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1.

The Good Buy Shop is located at 115 South Main Street in Blackwell. It is open Tuesday – Thursday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
