Looking Back- Thinking Forward: Braum's is gone, now what?

by Dale McGaha

There sure are a lot of sad faces around Blackwell this past few days! Why, you ask? Read on:

Mainly because of the recent tragic fire at Blackwell’s Braum’s store out at the I-35 junction. We know that a bunch of church goers meet there after their Sunday and Wednesday night services.

But, not to fret, thank God Blackwell has a lot of other good places to continue those vital refreshment times. Some are close to the Braum’s location, such as McDonalds, Cobb’s Family Café, KFC-Taco Bell, Los Potros Mexican Restaurant, Sub-Way. Not to mention several good in-town locations such as, The Stack, Pizza Hut, Shepherd’s Deli, United Grocery Deli, Jovani’s, Sonic Drive-In, The Chinese restaurant, The Lunch Box and the Donut Shop, Bob’s Grill and Dairy Queen. (A lot of towns our size don’t have half this many food outlets).

Or if you just want a good cup of coffee or cold drink, The Holy Grounds is another pleasant place to relax or visit friends and if you like a cool icy drink, latch on to one of Koolie’s snow cones. And I almost forgot, service stations such as Conoco and Valero that have a variety of snacks and cold drinks.

So you see, we can wipe away our sad looks and be thankful for what we’ve got. But, at the same time, wish our Braum’s folks the best for their future plans for a bigger and better store in a few months.

And while we’re at it, let’s pause long enough to say thanks to all the good cooks and clerks that serve us daily. Blackwell is a good town – talk it up more!
