Blackwell Regional raises money for Christmas for Kids

by Charles Gerian

Blackwell Regional Hospital staffers and Blackwell firefighters worked together Friday afternoon to raise more than $1,000 for the Blackwell Fire Department’s annual “Christmas for Kids” program.

“We were excited for this opportunity,” said Tammy Parr, who spoke on behalf of the hospital. “This program touches so many lives by providing those in need within our community the chance to have a Christmas they otherwise would not have.”

Fire Chief Cory Hanebrink thanked those who showed up. He gave a special thanks to Dr. Samuel Hague for his donations.

The hospital and the fire department wished to thank Hague, who donated Oklahoma City Thunder tickets; 7 Clans Casino for donating a hotel stay and water-park passes; and those who participated in the raffle.

The fire department raised another $1,000 for the program through its junk car “smash-up,” which was held at the Kay County Free Fair in Sept. Participants were invited to smash a junk car with a hammer.

Donations and more can be made by contacting the fire department at (580) 363-5490.
