Blackwell "Light Up the City" contest to recognize Holiday cheer

by Charles Gerian

Blackwellites will see what some hope to be the start of a new tradition as the holiday season rolls around with the new “Light Up the City” contest, sponsored by the Blackwell Area Chamber of Commerce.

The contest will be separated into two divisions: residential entries and business entries. Judges will see which business and which individual household has the brightest holiday spirit as tinsel, lights, inflatables, and other displays are set up to usher in the most wonderful time of the year.

A winner in each category will be selected weekly from December 2 - 23.

Those who might be a little late on decorating can still enter by the second week of the contest.

Those who wish to register for the competition may contact the Chamber of Commerce at 580-363-4195 or by e-mail at info@blackwellchamber.org.

The Chamber of Commerce will host the 7th annual Night of Lights Christmas Parade on Dec. 2, with the line-up beginning at 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Main St. and Dewey Ave.

The chamber has requested that there be no other Santa Claus figures during the parade; having multiple characters might cause confusion for younger attendees, officials said. Children will get to meet the “real” Santa in the event center at the county fairgrounds following the parade.

The event center is located on South Main St.
