Blackwell High School details Homecoming 2020 safety plans

by Charles Gerian

Blackwell Public Schools have released the following statement regarding their safety protocols and plans for Homecoming 2020 during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic:

Dear BHS Alumni,

As you know, COVID-19 has impacted the way we live and engage socially in 2020. Therefore, we will need to make some changes to our homecoming festivities this year as we recognize the classes ending with a 0 and 5. I want you to know that our staff and administration are working to ensure that our long tradition of homecoming festivities go forward for not only the alumni, but also for our Senior Class of 2021. To that end, we have made some changes to the week’s festivities which will occur on October 2nd.

First, due to social distancing issues, we will not have the coffee in the study center, and the Blackwell Education Foundation will not be hosting a luncheon this year. Additionally, in place of one large gathering, we will have two assemblies recognizing the classes and presenting Miss BHS and Maroon Spirit.

Classes ending with a 0 will gather in the auditorium at 10:00 am and the classes ending with a 5 will meet at 1:00 pm in the auditorium. As you enter, temperatures will be taken, and masks will strongly be encouraged during the assembly.

Finally, since the parade is outside, it will continue as usual beginning at 4:00 pm down town, and the football game will kick off at 7:00 pm with the football royalty presentation starting at 6:30 pm.

The wearing of masks and social distancing during the assemblies and football game are strongly encouraged.
