Blackwell sales tax revenue grows despite pandemic

The sales tax numbers are in and despite the pandemic, the Blackwell sales tax continues to grow. The city received $280,157 this month compared to $266,490 in 2019. That is a solid five-percent increase for the month over last year. The reporting period covers most of the Back-to-School sales from July 15-31 and August 1-15.

The sales use tax for Blackwell flattened out a little this month as they only received $31,909 compared to $31,669 in 2019.

Kay County had a solid month with a 46-percent increase at $453,429 compared to $309,363 in 2019. The sales use tax for the county was also up significantly at $68,297 compared to $41,785 in 2019.

Medford may have had the biggest jump of the local municipalities, with a 79-percent increase over last year at $60,444 compared to $33,713 in 2019. Medford’s sales use tax was also up with $19,428 compared to $3,340 in 2019.

Ponca City sales tax was up a solid 12-percent this month with $1,251,386 compared to $1,117,570 in 2019. The sales use tax was also up a solid 18-percent with $154,837 compared to $131,116 in 2019.

Tonkawa was down in the sales tax numbers at $124,809 compared to $126,485 in 2019. The city was up in the sales use tax with $15,882 against $15,086 in 2019.

Kaw City saw a 16-percent increase on the sales tax numbers at $9,271 compared to $8,009 in 2019. The sales use tax numbers were also up having received $2,284 compared to $1,472 in 2019.

Braman was down on their sales tax numbers with $3,997 compared to $4,748 last year but did see a solid increase in the sales use tax receiving $1,055 compared to $666 in 2019.

Newkirk was essentially flat for the month with $36,346 received in 2020 compared to $37,909 in 2019. On the sales use tax side, the city received $9,050 compared to $6,695 in 2019.

The Deer Creek-Lamont area saw solid increases with Deer Creek receiving $996 compared to $691, while Lamont received $6,990 compared to $4,148 in 2019. On the sales use tax report Lamont reported $1,416 compared to $933 in 2019, while Deer Creek received $458 compared to $196 last year.

Grant County received $53,513 this month compared to $50,329 in 2019. On the sales use tax side, the county received $20,968 this year after receiving $18,708 last year.

The budget numbers are crucial to the municipalities annual budget.
