Livestock show continues without county fair

Blackwell 4H and FFA parents came together Sept. 12 to host a local livestock show in the place of the canceled Kay County Free Fair.

The show took place in the Whitman Arena at the Kay County Fairgrounds, which the City of Blackwell allowed the organizations to use. The event was sponsored by Helena Chemical, P & K Equipment, Otto Seeds, Hembree & Hodgson Construction, Legacy Signs, and local Farm Bureau agent Doug Hodges.

In the cattle category, Breeding Heifer Supreme went to Reid Buellesfeld, with Reserve Supreme going to Raylan Buellesfeld. Market Steer Grand Champion went to Reid Buellesfeld, and Reserve Grand Champion went to Cash Orr.

In the hogs category, Supreme Breeding Gilt and Reserve Supreme Breeding Gilt went to Payton Kienholz.

For the goats category, Breeding Doe Supreme and Markey Wether Grand Champion went to Haley Merhoff, while Reserve Supreme went to Jacob Merhoff. Reserve Grand Champion went to Linley Brown.

In the sheep category, Breeding Ewe Supreme Champion went to Taylor Otto, while Reserve Supreme Champion went to Ethan Vap. Market Wether Grand Champion went to Tegan Hodgson, while Reserve Grand Champion went to Sophie Hodgson.
