Blackwell's FFA and 4-H win big at County Livestock Show

This past weekend the Blackwell Fairgrounds hosted the 95th annual Kay County Junior Livestock Show,culminating in an awards banquet Friday night catered by Los Potros. The program Friday night was lead by Cooper Orr, Blackwell FFA, as the Master of Ceremonies alongside Haley Merhoff, Newkirk FFA.

Reid Buellesfeld for Blackwell’s OK-Okies 4-H took Grand Champion Steer sponsored by Lisa and Jeff Kubik to start the night, with Kent Tripp of Blackwell FFA taking Supreme Heifer, sponsored by Buellesfeld Cattle Company. Reserve Grand Champion Barrow went to Tucker Jeffries sponsored by W-O Ranch. James Tripp and Kyrin Wolfe took Reserve Supreme Heifer and Reserve Supreme Gilt respectively while Cooper Orr and Jake Smith were awarded Bronze Medallion Steer and Gilt. Champion Steers went to Blackwell kids Tucker Jeffries (Angus), Reid Buellesfeld (Crossbred), and Jessica Hobaugh (Shorthorn). Champion Commercial Pen went to Bree Rowe.

Five Blackwell kids took home awards for heifers with James Tripp, Kent Tripp, and Jessica Hobaugh, two of which took multiple awards. Colton Tripp and Ali Sneath were awarded for Champion Yorkshire Barrow and Champion Poland China Barrow respectively. For GIlts, Colton Tripp, Preslee Jeffries, Tabor Steelmon, and Kyrin Wolfe were awarded with Champion Chester White, Poland China GIlt, Spotted Poland Gilt, and Commercial Gilt.

Aiden Patterson was Blackwell’s sole winner with Ewe Lambs, taking home Champion Hampshire Ewe Lamb. Chandler Peetoom took Reserve Grand Commercial Pen before Beef Showmanship Awards went to Jessica Hobaugh and Cooper Orr for Junior and Senior showman. Tucker Jeffries took Champion Senior Swine for Blackwell.

Jake Smith was awarded for Top County Produced Barrow while Jake Smith was recognized for Top County Produced Gilt. Blackwell’s kids rounded out their star-studded night with Champion Cattle Fitting Team going to Reid Buellesfeld alongside Bodie and Tucker Jeffries; Cash and Cooper Orr alongside Kent Tripp took Reserve Champion Cattle Fitting Team.
