The Blackwell Board of Education met Monday night for roughly two hours, and board members accepted the resignations of nine school district employees.

The board heard reports from principals as well as Superintendent Shawn Haskins.

Becky Miller, Blackwell Middle School principal, said eligible students are excited to go on the school’s “summit trip” to a trampoline park.

Students who meet certain grade requirements are allowed to go on the trip. Blackwell Elementary School principals spoke about the end of the school year and the graduation ceremony for Kindergarten students, which took place at the Blackwell Event Center. At Blackwell High School, officials are preparing for graduation on May 21, which will take place on the football field. The board then convened into an executive session.

Upon returning to open session, the board voted to accept the resignations of: BMS/BES special education teacher Amber Daniels, BMS geography teacher Derrick Hammer, BHS social studies teacher Rick Lang, BES teacher Julie Lang, BES physical education teacher Taylor Lang, BES paraprofessional Laura Jackson, BES physical education teacher Cole Hibler, BMS math teacher Caleb Sanders and BMS special education paraprofessional Amanda Clark.

The board then approved the employment of Brent Parker as a BHS social studies teacher and head football coach, Claytin Beaver as a BMS history and BHS baseball coach, Katrina Brown as a substitute bus driver, Jamie Means as a driver’s education instructor for the summer, Michael Meador as a BMS science teacher and Ruth Ford as a BMS math teacher.
