Dollar Tree brings balloons and bargains to Blackwell

by Charles Gerian

Blackwell residents have a new store to shop at thanks to the opening of the Dollar Tree, 1301 W. Doolin Ave. The store opened in early January and is staffed with almost 20 Blackwell and Kay County workers, meeting the City of Blackwell’s incentives to bring in businesses that provide jobs locally.

Store Manager Torrie Taylor said the store is still hiring and is looking forward to serving the community.

“We started stocking and really getting into gear the end of December,” Taylor said. “We went through close to 10,000 boxes, and we put in the hours to get this store ready for Blackwell.” Taylor said the community and city workers have been more than accommodating.

“We hadn’t even officially opened yet, and the people of Blackwell were so welcoming towards us here at the Dollar Tree,” Taylor said. “Everyone from the city manager to people on Facebook, they’d always check in on us and ask how we were doing. I think Dollar Tree is a perfect fit for this community, and I’m so happy to be here with my team.” Taylor spent several years at the Dollar Tree store in Ponca City and said she is looking forward to opening “her” first store.

The store is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. The store offers balloons, household goods and more. It does not have a frozen goods section like its sister-store in Ponca City.
