Shopping local: Blackwell Sales Tax revenue jumped in 2021

The sales tax report for the period of November 16-30,2021 and estimated sales for December 1-15,2021 was recently released.
The state reported that $193.2 million was disbursed to the cities and towns across the state of Oklahoma. That is an increase of almost $30 million from the $164.2 million distributed in for December 2020. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $36.9 million. The counties received 31.9 million in sales tax and $6.7 million in use tax collections.
Locally, Blackwell was up 15-percent over a year ago as they received $297,886 this year compared to $259,286 in 2021. The sales use tax continues to stay steady as Blackwell received $58,682 compared to $42,135, a 40-percent increase over the 2021 numbers. Kay County received $490,309 this month compared to $469,797 in 2021, a four percent increase. The bad news is their collection on use tax fell to $87,093 compared to $202,509 in 2021.
Ponca City received $1.45 million this month compared to 1.39 million in 2021, but their use tax receipts fell to $182,789 from $184,400 in 202. The sales tax was up 4.3 percent while the use tax was essentially flat to 2021.
Tonkawa received $138,730 this month for sales tax, which is 6.5 percent above last year’s $130,333. The town’s use tax numbers were also up receiving $24,577 compared to $21,195 in 2021.
Newkirk was up having received $38,812 compared to $36,871 in 2021. Use tax was down as Newkirk received $8,913 this month compared to $9,585 in 2021.
Braman had a solid month with $12,267 which is double the $5,349 they received in 2021. The sales use tax was flat, with Braman receiving $1,331 this month and $1,483 in 2021.
Kaw City wraps up the numbers for Kay County with $6,999 compared to $6,471 last year. The sales use tax was up $330 as well receiving $2,789 this year compared to $2,451 in 2021.
Over in Grant County, Medford was up 40-percent over last year at $46,557 compared to $33,300 in 2021. Their sales use tax was also up 33-percent with $12,637 compared to $8,895 in 2021. The Grant County government received $52,416 this month compared to $33,086 in 2021. The use tax collections were also up slightly at $16,997 compared to $14,094 last year.
Lamont had $8,855 deposited into their account for sales tax which is 100-percent up over the $4,355 received last year. Lamont also had a slight increase in use tax collections with $2,189 compared to $1,697 in 2021. Deer Creek was down collecting only $594 compared to $729 last year. The sales use tax was flat with $302 this year compared to $343 in 2021.
These numbers are all important to the various municipalities because their general funds can be affected by surges in the tax collections.
