Blackwell wins big at FFA / 4-H Awards Banquet

The 96th annual Kay County 4-H and FFA Junior Livestock Show concluded Friday with an awards banquet, with several local students taking home honors.

Emalee Kelly of the Newkirk FFA chapter and Colton Tripp of the Blackwell FFA chapter served as the masters of ceremony.

The Grand Champion Steer Award went to Tanner Otto of Ponca City FFA, sponsored by Jeff and Lisa Kubik. Payten Kienholz of Tonkawa FFA received Grand Champion Barrow, sponsored by Equity Bank. Taylor Otto of the Kay-Pals Livestock 4-H received Grand Champion Wether Lamb, sponsored by the Hodgson Club Lambs. Trenton Morton from the Newkirk Go-Getters 4-H received Grand Champion Wether Goat, sponsored by Stride Bank.

Blackwell’s honors for the night included: Blackwell FFA’s Chandler Peetoom receiving Champion Commercial Pen, sponsored by Kay County AFR Local 306; James Tripp receiving Supreme Heifer, sponsored by Buellesfeld Cattle Company; Jake Smith receiving Reserve Grand Champion Barrow, sponsored by Worley Ranch; and Peetoom receiving Reserve Champion Pen, sponsored by Kay County AFR Local 306.

Blackwell FFA members were also recognized in Champion Steers. Tucker Jeffries was recognized with Champion Angus Steer, sponsored by Blubaugh Angus Ranch. Jessica Hobaugh from Blackwell’s OK-Okies 4-H Club won Champion Hereford Steer, sponsored by TANA Ag Solutions.

In Champion Heifers, Blackwell saw several wins. Champion Angus Heifer, sponsored by Blubaugh Angus Ranch, went to Rhett Tripp; Cash Orr won Champion Chianina Heifer, sponsored by Glenny Cattle Company; James Tripp won Red Angus Heifer, sponsored by Blisful Acres; and Reid Buellesfeld won Champion Simmental Heifer, sponsored by Kay County AFR Local 306.

Blackwell OK-Okies 4-H saw Raylan Buellesfeld win Champion Hereford Heifer, sponsored by Dobson Ranch. Jessica Hobaugh won Champion Shorthorn Heifer, sponsored by Worley Ranch.

For Barrows, Jake Smith represented Blackwell FFA with Champion Berkshire Barrow, sponsored by Stuteville Ford Lincoln. Blackwell OK-Okies 4-H Club member Bodie Jeffries won Chester White Barrow, sponsored by Worley Ranch; Preslee Jeffries won Champion Duroc Barrow, sponsored by JSJ Trucking; and Jordyn Smith won Champion Hereford Barrow, sponsored by Equity Bank.

In Gilts, Blackwell FFA member MaKynna Smith and Jake Smith won with their Champion Chester White Gilt and Champion Duroc Gilt, sponsored respectively by Stuteville Ford Lincoln and Callie Price.

The Blackwell OK-Okies 4-H won in Gilts. Jordyn Smith won Champion Hampshire Gilt, sponsored by Callie Price; Kroy Wolfe won Champion Spotted Poland Gilt, sponsored by Stuteville; and Colton Tripp won Champion Yorkshire Gilt, also sponsored by Stuteville.

In Ewe Lambs, Blackwell FFA member Daniel Bergfield won Champion Hampshire Ewe Lamb, sponsored by NOC Agriculture Sciences.

For Beef Showmanship, Blackwell’s OK-Okies saw Jessica Hobaugh take Champion Junior Beef Showmanship, sponsored by 4B Cattle-Lance and Kelli Bergman.

Swine Showmanship saw Preslee Jeffries of the OK-Okies win with Champion Junior Swine Showmanship, sponsored by Leo Hazaleus Memorial. Reid Buellesfeld of Blackwell FFA won Champion Intermediate Swine Showmanship, sponsored by Kevin Frazier and Family.

In the Top County Produced category, Blackwell FFA’s Jake Smith won Top County Produced Carcass Hog, sponsored by Kay County Farm Bureau. Smith also won in Top County Exhibitor Bred and Owned with his Carcass Hog, again sponsored by Kay County Farm Bureau.

The Blackwell Ok-Okies won Champion Cattle Fitting Team, sponsored by Dobson Ranch, with Reid Buellesfeld, Jessica Hobaugh and Tucker Jeffries taking home the honors.

In Wether Goats, Blackwell OK-Okies members Jeslyn Day and Damian Lawrence won 4th and 5th Place Division 2, Class 2. Harlie May of Blackwell FFA received 4th Place Division 2, Class 1.

For Steers, Blackwell OK-Okies walked away with Champion Hereford Steer, 1st Place Class 1 Crossbred Steer and 4th Place Class 3 Crossbred Steer. The awards went to Jessica Hobaugh, Jordyn Smith and Bodie Jeffries, respectively.

In that same category, Blackwell FFA received honors for 3rd Place Class 3 Crossbred Steer, 1st Place Class 3 Angus Steer and 4th Place Class 2 Crossbred Steer. The awards went to Reid Buellesfeld, Tucker Jeffries and Louden Wolfe.

For Commercial Pens, Blackwell FFA’s Chandler and Addyson Peetoom won Champion Commercial Pen and 3rd Place Commercial Pen, respectively.

In Heifers, Blackwell FFA saw wins for Supreme Heifer by James Tripp, Champion Angus Heifer by Rhett Tripp and Champion Chianina Heifer by Cash Orr. Blackwell OK-Okies member Raylan Buellesfeld won with Champion Hereford Heifer.

In Barrows, Blackwell FFA won Reserve Grand Champion Barrow, 1st Place Class 2 Crossbred Barrow, 2nd Place Class 2 Hampshire Barrow and 2nd Place Class 5 Crossbred Barrow. The awards went to Jake Smith, MaKynna Smith and Reid Buellesfeld.

The Blackwell Ok-Okies received Reserve Champion Crossbred Barrow, Champion Duroc Barrow and 1st Place Class 5 Crossbred Barrow. The awards went to Jordyn Smith, Preslee Jeffries and Bodie Jeffries, respectively.

In Gilts, Blackwell FFA won 2nd Place Class 2 Commercial Gilt, Champion Chester White Gilt and Champion Yorkshire Gilt. The awards went to Jake Smith, MaKynna Smith and Colon Tripp, respectively. The OK-Okies won Reserve Champion Chester White Gilt, Champion Spotted Poland Gilt and 2nd Place Class 2 Spotted Poland Gilt. The awards went to Preslee Jeffries, Kroy Wolfe and Raylan Buellesfeld, respectively.

Finally, Blackwell FFA took home 3rd Place Class 3 Crossbred Wether Lamb and 4th Place Class 2 Hampshire Wether Lamb in the Whether Lamb Category. The awards went to Hope Henderson and Daniel Bergfield, respectively.
