New banners on Main honor Barn Quilts; Blackwell Public Power
Blackwell Tourism has unveiled its new line of banners to be displayed on Main Street. The new banners showcase the Top of Oklahoma BarnQuilt Trail and are adorned with the Blackwell Public Power logo.
The banners will be displayed on street lights along Main Street and the Kay County Free Fairgrounds.
They depict different barn quilts that represent various states and landmarks.
Opening in 2018, the barn quilt trail has been a source of tourism for Blackwell. It was the first official trail in Oklahoma.
The trail was brought to life with the help of several community volunteers and the Blackwell Tourism group. Among those who helped start the trail is artist Cindy Oard, who paints the quilts at her shop, Wonderfully Made, on Main Street.
The trail has been featured on several internet sites, including the news program “Discover Oklahoma.” The most recent major project the tourism group used the quilts for was the old 4-H building at the county fairgrounds. The group posted several quilts on the building in time for the 2021Kay County Free Fair
