Cody's Corner: You can't stay down if God's on your side

by Cody Biby

In Psalm 73:26, we read: “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

The Word of God is the first place we should go for encouragement. God will lead you to a verse for each and every season and storm in this life.

There will be a dawn even after the blackest nights in this life. Even when our flesh and hearts are failing, there is strength from God helping our hearts and holding us lovingly – even when we cannot see or believe it.

One time, there was a young pastor that was struggling mightily with all kinds of problems and discouragements. He decided to visit an older pastor whom he respected. Afterwards, he proclaimed: “When I went in to talk to him, all the stars had fallen from the sky. Amazingly, he was able put each one of them back up again one at a time.”

Have you had an experience like that? Do you need an experience like that? I would strongly suggest that you look on this page at all the different churches and get in contact with one of the ministers.

You need help in this battle, and there is more than one minister below who could help you with whatever you are going through. I have personally met many other ministers here in town, and am fully convinced that any of them could help anyone going through anything.

Why?

Because we all get our information from the same source: The Word of God. I remember reading about a TV news personality who really loved boxing.

He studied all the great fighters and even got into boxing as a sport. He stressed the importance of how he was taught to be a “get up” fighter. It does not matter how many times you have been knocked down; there are great lessons to be learned in the act of getting up.

He also said that the No. 1 reason most fighters got up was because there was someone yelling encouragement to them “in their corner.” Christian, are you letting God and His Word encourage you?

Are you listening for His voice of support, instruction, conviction, and inspiration? Have you learned innumerable lessons from “getting up” after being knocked down? Do you have Scriptures that act as anchors when the storms of this life try to overwhelm and destroy your faith, hope and love?

Do you have brothers and sisters in Christ that you can go to be encouraged or set straight? Are you willing to be that kind of brother or sister in Christ to another who desperately needs encouragement in these days? I pray that you will be, even if you are broken today or feel like you are always encouraging others while no one encourages you. I promise you will not feel like that if you spend consistent time in your Bible, and look for opportunities to encourage fellow Christians.

Take some encouragement with you for the road: “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you,” we read in Deuteronomy 31:6. There is nothing to fear, and everything to be gained, by being encouraged by God and serving Him today
