Troy Hockett

Troy Hockett, age 92 of Blackwell, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at the Norman Veterans Center. Troy Delbert Hockett was born July 18, 1929 in Watonga, Oklahoma, the 2nd of 6 children born to Jim and Nora Hockett. By the time he was in high school, the Hockett family had settled in Blackwell, and he graduated with the Maroon’s Class of 1948. Following high school Troy joined the United States Navy and served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict. He trained as a machinist and often recalled his time on the U.S.S. Orion. On July 22, 1950, Troy married his best friend and the love of his life, Wanda Buesing. They made their home in Blackwell where together they raised three daughters, Linda Sue, Glenda and Karen. Troy worked for ACME Foundry, where he met his longtime friend, Arnold Armstrong, and they dreamed of owning their own business. In 1962, they opened L&W Machine and Repair, and operated it for nearly thirty years. Away from work, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with family. He believed any day fishing was a good day. He always looked forward to turkey hunts in Missouri. He was a man of great faith and a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Blackwell. He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Nora Hockett; sister, Moetta Alexander and two brothers, Cecil Hockett and Jim Hockett.

Troy is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Wanda Hockett; daughters, Linda Sue Turk (Verlin) of Blackwell, Glenda Day (Derrel) of Purcell and Karen Lambert (Mike) of Blackwell; sister, Alice Schmidt (Ed) of Miami, OK; brother, Chet Hockett (Loretta) of Wichita, KS; 10 grandchildren, Shannon Camp (Mark) of Purcell, Krista Thomas (Joe) of San Antonio, Derra Eppler (Keith) of Durant, Chelsea Rothgeb (Kevin) Tonkawa, Heath Lambert (Jennifer) of Blackwell, Ryan Godbehere (Sarah) of Edmond, Heather Albert (Eric) of Goldsby, Brandy Taylor (Justin) of Washington, Brook Carter of Stratford and Autumn Lambert (Kye Sears) of Guthrie; 27 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
A Celebration of Troy’s Life has been scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at 2:00 PM in the First Christian Church of Blackwell. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the First Christian Church, Blackwell, OK.
