Blackwell Library to host book signing Saturday to cap busy summer season

The Blackwell Public Library will host a book signing Saturday with authors and artists from 4RV Publishing, an independent publishing group based out of Hydro in western Oklahoma.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Guests include: Athalie Genesis, an artist behind the children’s book“Panther’s Snowy Christmas;” Blackwell resident JacqueGraham, a poet and storyteller behind “Walking the Earth: Life’s Perspective in Poetry;” Vehoae, a researcher and speaker, wrote “Conscience: Breaching Social Amnesia” and “Pahutchae’s Pouch;” Vivian Zabel, a writer and teach er who published “Burnt Offering” and the “Panther” series of children’s books; and Yvonne Morgan, a Christian author who published several faith-inspired children’s stories.

“We are extremely excited to host the authors and artists of 4RV Publishing” said Blackwell Public Library Director of Operations Talyn Spence. “There will be a wide range of content and interests on display, ranging from children’s picture books to Native American history. This is a great opportunity for our library to really cultivate several interests at one time, and I think the community will really love it. We encourage everyone to come.”

Earlier this summer, the library hosted local author Jamie McGuire for a book signing. Saturday’s signing will be the latest big event for the local library, which last week hosted “Mad Science,” a science-based exhibit that drew in more than 40 children.

“We had a fantastic crowd,” Spence said. “The children were very attentive, and they were having so much fun that I don’t even think they realized they were learning a lot as it went on. It was a very educational event that captured their attention and, most importantly, their minds.”

Spence said this was an event she’d love to see return to the library.

Library workers will operate their grab-and-go food program until Blackwell Public Schools return to session Aug. 17.

The program features breakfast from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and lunch from noon to 1 p.m.

On Aug. 19, the library will begin “Adult Crafternoons” from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Sign-up sheets are available at the library’s front desk.

People ages 18 and older are encouraged to attend. The library is preparing a new program, a seed library, that is available to adult cardholders.

Those interested can stop by the library to sign up, receive a brochure and even donate seeds of their own.

“The seed library is the latest example of how diverse our offerings and programs are here at BlackwellPublic Library,” Head Librarian Tina Cavin said.

“Kids, teens and adults will all find something here, and it is part of our continued effort to place ourselves as the central hub of our community in Blackwell.”
