Blackwell FFA / 4-H win big at county livestock show

The 9th Annual Kay County Junior Livestock Show came to an end last week at the Blackwell Fairgrounds with the FFA – 4H awards banquet, recognizing Kay County youth who excelled at the show.

The masters of ceremony for the banquet were Brylen Liberton of the Ponca City FFA and Colton Tripp of the Blackwell FFA.

Blackwell’s OK-Okies 4-H and FFA chapters took home a combined total of 43 recognitions and awards.

James Tripp took home Reserve Supreme Heifer, sponsored by Sooner State Pattern Works; MaKynna Smith took home Bronze Medallion Barrow, sponsored by Tyson Jackson – Farm Bureau Insurance; Reid Buellesfeld took Reserve Grand Champion Steer, sponsored by Buellesfeld Cattle Company; Preslee Jeffries took Bronze Medallion Gilt, sponsored by Overman Farms; Hope Henderson took Champion Dorset Wether Lamb, sponsored by Otto Seeds – Chad and Bonnie Otto.

In the heifers division, Cash Orr took Champion Chianina Heifer, sponsored by Meador Cattle Company; Raylan Buellesfeld took Champion Hereford Heifer, sponsored by TANA Ag Solutions; James Tripp took Champion Red Angus Heifer, sponsored by Blisful Acres; Tristan Hobaugh took Champion Shorthorn Heifer and Champion Shorthorn Plus, sponsored by Worley Ranch and Hobaugh Dozer, respectively; and Jessica Hobaugh took Champion Simmental Influence Heifer, sponsored by Kay County Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee.

In the barrows division, Bodie Jeffries took Champion Chester White Barrow, sponsored by Worley Ranch; MaKynna Smith took Champion Duroc Barrow, sponsored by JSJ Trucking; and Jordyn Smith rounded out Blackwell’s winners there with Champion Spotted Poland Barrow, sponsored by McKenzie and Yancy York.

For gilts, Blackwell’s winners were Preslee Jeffries, Colton Tripp and Jordyn Smith.

Jeffries was recognized with Champion Berkshire Gilt; Tripp won Champion Chester White Gilt; and Smith won Champion Duroc Gilt. Jeffries and Tripp were sponsored by Stuteville Ford-Lincoln, while Smith was sponsored by Callie Price.

For beef showmanship, Raylan and Reid Buellesfeld were recognized with Champion Junior Beef Showmanship and Champion Senior Beef Showmanship, sponsored by 4B Cattle – Lance and Kelli Bergman, and Blisful Acres, respectively.

For swine showmanship, Reid Buellesfeld won Champion Swine Showmanship, sponsored by Overman Farms.

The Top County Produced honor went to Hope Henderson with her Wether lamb, sponsored by the First National Bank of Oklahoma; Jessica Hobaugh won with her steer, sponsored by Tyson Jackson - Farm Bureau; and Jordyn Smith won with her gilt, sponsored by McKenzie and Yancy York.

The Champion Cattle Fitting Team went to three Blackwell teens: Jessica and Tristan Hobaugh and Reid Buellesfeld, sponsored by Dobson Ranch.

Moving onto the premium lineup, Wether lambs saw Teegan Hodgson win with Grand Champion and Hope Henderson win with Champion Dorset.

Premium Lineup ewe lambs saw Henderson with her 1st Place Class 6 Commercial Ewe Lamb.

Wether Goats saw Brantley Brown with a 2nd Place Division 3 Class 1 Wether Goat as well as Jeslyn Day with her 5th Place Division 1 Class 2 Wether Goat. Harlie May also placed with her 5th Place Division 2 Class 3 Wether Goat.

For steers, Reid Buellesfeld was recognized with Reserve Grand Champion, while Tucker Jeffries was honored with 3rd Place Class 4 Crossbred Steer. Jessica Hobaugh had her 2nd Place Class 3 Crossbred Steer, and Tristan Hobaugh took home the honor of a 5th Place Class 5 Crossbred Steer.

For commercial pens, Blackwell’s Chandler Peetoom won 3rd Place Commercial Pen.

In heifers, James Tripp was recognized with Reserve Supreme Heiger, and Raylan Buellesfeld won with Champion Hereford Heifer.

Blackwell dominated barrows. MaKynna Smith, Bodie Jeffries, Reid Buellesfeld, Jordyn Smith, Raylan Buellsefeld, Preslee Jeffries, Colton Tripp and Tucker Jeffries won, in order, Bronze Medallion Barrow, Champion Chester White Barrow, 2nd Place Class 3 Crossbred Barrow, Champion Spotted Poland Barrow, 1st Place Class 4 Crossbred Barrow, 1st Place Class 2 Duroc Barrow, 3rd Place Class 1 Corssbred Barrow and 3rd Place Class 1 Spotted Poland Barrow.

Blackwell’s sole honor in premium lineup gilts went to Jordyn Smith with her Champion Duroc Gilt.
