David B. Hutcheson

David B. Hutcheson, 84 of Fort Smith, AR. passed away peacefully at home on March 12, 2023. David was born to the late Elmer and Werthena Bumgardner on July 23, 1938 in Enid, OK. David graduated from Blackwell high school and worked at the Blackwell Printing Company until joining the US Marine Corp in May 1956. David was Honorably discharged from the Marines in April 1959 with the rank of Sargent. He started his retail career at Hunts Department Stores in 1959 working for them for over 17 years. April 3, 1965 he married the love of his life Karen Le Valley, to this marriage they had three children. David began working for Walmart in March 1976 and retired from Walmart in 1999. He is the only store manager to receive store of the year two years in a row in all of Walmart history. After retiring he enjoyed spending time with family. He attended multiple concerts, programs, and events involving the grandchildren. He served on the board of the Golden Rule Clothes Closet. He enjoyed working with wood making squirrel feeders and bird houses. David also assisted his son with his lawn care business until he was diagnosed with dementia. He loved to tell his kids and grandkids to never give up on your dreams. It’s okay to make mistakes as you learn more to make yourself better.

David is survived by his wife Karen Hutcheson, children Danny (Maria) Hutcheson, Darla Hutcheson, grandchildren Kyli Hutcheson, Blake Hutcheson, Daniel Aleman Hutcheson, Vanessa Hutcheson, Karla Hutcheson, his brother Delmar (Teo) Bumgardner, sisters Virginia (Lane Van Allen) Frost, Harriet (Ken Zigler) Bumgardner, and Nancy (Richard) Vale.

He is preceded in death by his son Darrin Hutcheson, parents Elmer and Werthena Bumgardner, and sisters Johanna Sizemore and Marian Darwin.

Visitation for David will be Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 5-7 pm in the chapel at Edwards Funeral home. Services will be Friday, March 17, 2023 at 2 pm in Roebuck Chapel at First United Methodist Church.

Continued Services will be on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Braman United Methodist Church at 10:00 am with burial to follow at the Braman Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Fort Smith, Braman United Methodist Church, Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association, or the American Legion Post #259 in Braman, OK.
