Peckham Track Team makes history
The Peckham Elementary Track & Field team has made Peckham history.
Peckham School is a member of the Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools group, which hosts statewide sporting competitions each year.
This year, Peckham took a team of 15 athletes, resulting in three regional champions and five qualifying for the state meet. The state meet will be at North Rock Creek High School in Shawnee on Saturday.
The five who will head to the state meet are as follows.
Ziva Vance, a Peckham eighth grade student from Braman, is the shotput regional champion and discus regional champion. Vance is the daughter of Nita and A.J. Gummow. She will attend Newkirk High School next year.
Tripp Briggs, a Peckham eighth grade student from Tonkawa, is the 110-meter-hurdle regional champion, 300-meter-hurdle regional champion and 200-meter-dash regional champion. He also won second place in the long jump. Briggs is the son of Randi Price and Cyle and Jenn Briggs. He will attend Tonkawa High School next year.
Teagyn Beliel, a Peckham eighth grade student from Peckham, took third place in the 100-meter-hurdle, second place in the long jump and fourth place in the 200-meter-dash. Beliel is the daughter of Heather and Grant Rigdon and Ashley and Trenton Beliel. She will attend Newkirk High School next year.
Emmalyn Miller, a Peckham seventh grade student from Blackwell, won second place in the 100-meter-dash, third place in the long jump and is the 200-meter-dash regional champion. Miller is the daughter of Kaley Cassady and Cody Miller. She has one more year at Peckham.
Not pictured is State Qualifier Riley Trejo of Blackwell, who is a Peckham eighth grade student. He won fourth place in the 100-meter-dash.
Trejo is the son of Grizelda Bojorquez. He will attend Blackwell High School next year.
