Editor’s Note: The printed edition of this story in the December 20 issue of the Blackwell Journal-Tribune did not include the filing of Scott Moen for the Ward 3 City Council Seat. That has been corrected in this online edition.

The Kay County Election Board announced the filings for the Blackwell Public Schools and City of Blackwell 2024 Elections.

For the Blackwell Board of Education, Abigail Montoya filed as the incumbent, unopposed.

Blackwell Public Schools Superintendent Shawn Haskins was thrilled to keep working with Montoya, telling the Journal-Tribune:

“Abigail is a great person and Blackwell Public Schools is fortunate to have her on the board with us,” said Haskins.

For Mayor of the City of Blackwell, Patricia “Pat” Hullet filed unopposed. Hullet has served as interim Mayor for the City of Blackwell since the summer, stepping in for Jon Webb to fill his term.

Also for the Blackwell City Council was the seat for Ward 4 which is currently occupied by Chad Shepherd who will not be seeking reelection.

David Todd Murphy filed for the Ward 4 seat, also running unopposed.

Scott Moen filed for the Ward 3 seat, unopposed.

City Manager for the City of Blackwell Jerry Wieland stated that he is excited to continue the excellent work that has been done with Hullet having served as interim Mayor, and said that he is excited to work with Murphy as well.

“The City of Blackwell is very happy that people step up and offer their time for selfless service to the community, we look forward to serving Blackwell with them,” said Wieland.

Full stories will run in the coming weeks on Montoya, Hullet, Murphy, and Moen.
