Blackwell Fire welcomes new Assistant Chief Seth Brown
September 09, 2024
The Blackwell Fire Department has welcomed Seth Brown as Assistant Fire Chief, serving alongside Blackwell’s long-time Fire Chief Cory Hanebrink.
“Like most firefighters will tell you, it’s not just a job, it’s a calling,” said Brown.
Brown grew up in Kansas but has worked for the Blackwell Fire Department for his entire firefighting career.
“I feel that calling with taking on this new position,” explained Brown.
His name might seem familiar to many because of Brown’s experience as one of the City of Blackwell Fire Department’s drone pilots which has been vital in several operations and rescue efforts over the last year.
“This Assistant Chief position allows me to be more mobile, and to serve the Fire Department in so many more ways,” Brown said.
The Blackwell Fire Department has had an all-star run of progress over the last few years with their christening of Fire Station 2 on 13th Avenue, their drone acquisition which was used recently in aiding Barnsdall after a devastating tornado, and their extensive structural collapse training which was held at Blackwell’s abandoned Parkside School.
The latter was such a success for the Department- drawing 9 other entities across the state under the Department of Homeland Security-that the Fire Department recently acquired the school site and will fence it in as well as maintain it for future training exercises.
“I’m proud to be a part of this department and to see the growth and advancement of the department and community. It’s very rewarding to see everyone working towards the same goal,” Brown said.
