SUMMER MOVIES 2025
The summer movie season officially kicked off with the release of Marvel Studios’ (incredible) THUNDERBOLTS* aka THE NEW AVENGERS, but it will amp up with this weekend’s horror blockbuster FINAL DESTINATION BLOODLINES, WB’s latest entry in the long-running “worst ways to die” franchise.
But the season will truly shift into overdrive with the Memorial Day weekend releases of Disney’s live-action LILO & STITCH and Paramount’s final entry in the Tom Cruise dynasty’s MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: THE FINAL RECKONING each predicted to bring in a combined $200 million in the holiday weekend.
But what else is on the horizon as we head into June, July, and even August?
June will see THE LIFE OF CHUCK on June 6, a transcendent drama from the mind of Stephen King which won’t be a blockbuster by any means but will, nonetheless, be a sight.
June 13 will see the release of the live action HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON based on the acclaimed children’s animated films from Universal.
June 20th is a date to watch with the highly-anticipated 28 YEARS LATER, the third entry in the “28” zombie films which have been on ice since 2007. The terrifying horror film will star Aaron Taylor Johnson and Oscar-nominee Ralph Fiennes.
June 27 will bring two major releases with the Brad Pitt racing drama F1 from WB and Top Gun Maverick director Joseph Kosinski and Universal’s M3GAN 2.0, a horror-comedy which looks even more funny and goofy than the 2022 original.
In July, the month of fireworks will start with a bang in the form of Universal’s JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH which stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey as they uncover the genetic monstrosities waiting for them on the “dumping ground” island of the original park where all the freakish creatures were sent to die.
July 11th WB will release SUPERMAN, director James Gunn’s (The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy) reboot of the DC universe with David Corenswet as Superman.
July 18th will see the new I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER release, reuniting much of the original film’s cast for new carnage alongside Paramount’s SMURFS reboot.
Disney has July 25th on lock with the release of FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS, the final Marvel film before the next Avengers, “Doomsday”, which reboot’s Marvel’s “First Family”.
In August, families can look forward to THE BAD GUYS 2 and the reboot of THE NAKED GUN on August 1 with Disney’s FREAKIER FRIDAY releasing August 8.
Also in August, audiences can look forward to New Line’s WEAPONS, an ambitious horror project from BARBARIAN filmmaker Zach Cregger.
