Blackwell Public Library prepares for free summer programs
May 15, 2025

The Blackwell Public Library is turning up the fun this summer with a packed calendar of events, creative activities, and an exciting reading challenge as part of their 2025 Summer Reading Program. Open to children, teens, and adults, the program promises something for everyone, blending hands-on projects, science fun, and plenty of chances to win prizes just for reading.
Kicking Off With Foam and Fun
The festivities begin on Friday, May 23rd from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, with registration day featuring an appearance by Funky Monkey Foam—a bubbly spectacle that guarantees laughs and thrills. Attendees can sign up for the reading program while enjoying hot dogs, chips, and plenty of family-friendly fun.
Read Books, Earn Tickets, Win Prizes
The library encourages participants to dive into books all summer long. For every five books read, readers earn one ticket toward a chance to win one of six exciting prizes. Readers can choose to put all their tickets toward a single prize or spread them out across multiple options. Only one prize per winner will be awarded during the official drawing on Monday, July 14th. Reading logs are available at the library and must be returned by Friday, July 11th to qualify.
Summer Schedule Full of Creative Activities
The program also includes a weekly lineup of imaginative and educational activities—all hosted at the library. Most events begin at 2 PM, unless otherwise noted:
June 10: Kick things off with a Keychain Craft.
June 12: Learn to Make Your Own Bouncy Ball.
June 17: Get artistic with Clay Creativity.
June 24: Mix up some edible fun with Pudding Sand Cups.
June 26: Dive into discovery with Magic Water Pets.
July 1 (11 AM): Brighten your world with Window Painting.
July 3: Celebrate Independence Day with a Red, White, and Blue Chemical Reaction.
July 8: Wind down with a Dog Man Movie Day featuring the popular book character on the big screen.
With its engaging mix of reading rewards, hands-on crafts, science experiments, and family-friendly entertainment, this year’s program aims to spark curiosity and inspire a lifelong love of books in readers of all ages.
