Anime Festival Wichita Offers Family-Friendly Fun for Fans of All Ages
The Blackwell Journal-Tribune is once again heading to Anime Festival Wichita—and we think your family should, too!
Taking place June 27–28 at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Wichita, this long-running fan convention is the perfect summer getaway for anime lovers, gamers, and pop culture fans of all ages. While it may not be the largest convention in the Oklahoma/Kansas region, AFW shines in its welcoming, intimate atmosphere, making it a great first convention experience for kids and families alike.
Started in 2005, AFW has grown from a small gathering in downtown Wichita into a beloved summer tradition, now housed in the spacious Hyatt overlooking the Arkansas River. What sets it apart is its focus on community, creativity, and connection—offering young fans a chance to explore cosplay, attend panels, meet voice actors, and take part in activities that are fun, engaging, and age-appropriate.
This year’s guest lineup is full of fan-favorite voice actors and performers:
Jason Douglas – Known for his roles as Beerus in Dragon Ball Z, Tobin in The Walking Dead, and characters in My Hero Academia, RWBY, and Attack on Titan.
Mikey Mason – A hilarious and family-friendly musical comedian whose geeky songs, like “She Don’t Like Firefly,” are perfect for fans who love to laugh.
Alex Cazares – A favorite among kids and tweens, Alex is the voice of Carlota in The Loud House, Toy Chica in Five Nights at Freddy’s, and Batgirl in Teen Titans Go!.
Jessica Calvello – Longtime anime fans will recognize Jessica from Attack on Titan, Excel Saga, and One Piece, making her a hit with both younger fans and their parents.
Leraldo Anzaldua – A voice actor, director, and professional fight choreographer, Leraldo has worked on One Piece, Devil May Cry, and Attack on Titan.
Beyond the guest appearances, AFW offers cosplay contests, fashion shows, skits, workshops, and a vendor hall packed with art, collectibles, and merchandise. Whether your child wants to dress as their favorite character or just soak in the excitement, there’s something here for everyone—and it’s all presented in a safe, supervised, and family-friendly environment.
Tickets are affordable, too. Full weekend passes are $46, with single-day options available:
Friday: $17 (5 p.m.–12 a.m.)
Saturday: $26 (10 a.m.–12 a.m.)
Sunday: $18 (10 a.m.–6 p.m.)
You can view the full schedule and details at afwcon.com.
Parents, this is your sign: If your child loves anime, video games, or cosplay, Anime Festival Wichita is the perfect way to support their interests while enjoying a fun, safe weekend together. We’ll see you there!
