Blackwell Woman Celebrates 103rd Birthday and Receives Statewide Honor

August 21, 2025

Hillcrest Manor resident Ruby Onalee Park recently marked a remarkable milestone, celebrating her 103rd birthday. Born August 13, 1922, in Hominy, Oklahoma, Ruby was one of seven children. Her father worked for Conoco, providing the sole income for the family of nine, while her mother cared for the home and children.
Growing up during the Great Depression, Ruby’s family didn’t have much, but they made the most of their time together—learning ballroom dance and enjoying the thrill of watching their brand-new television. She fondly recalls special occasions when her family would make hamburgers to celebrate, a meal that remains her favorite to this day.
Throughout her working years, Ruby was employed as a secretary at a dentist’s office—her dream job—where she became known for greeting everyone with a bright smile and warm hello. She married the late John Park, and together they raised a son. Ruby’s favorite pastimes over the years have included golfing, bowling, and ballroom dancing.
When asked about her greatest life achievement, Ruby answered simply: “Marrying a good man and raising a good man.” She believes true happiness comes from a loving home and a healthy family. Her best advice for younger generations is to “think twice before you do anything important,” noting that what seems urgent today might not matter tomorrow.
Ruby says the enjoys living at Hillcrest Manor, where each day brings new experiences, activities, and cherished companionship. She hopes to be remembered for her love for others and her passion for helping those in need.
This year’s birthday celebration came with special recognition. Centenarians of Oklahoma honored Ruby Park on the occasion of her 103rd birthday, inducting her into the Centenarians of Oklahoma Hall of Fame. Ruby, who spent her career brightening everyone’s day as a secretary in a dental practice, was praised for her warmth, kindness, and dedication to family.
Ruby also achieved a lifelong dream during the festivities—appearing on television. Her 103rd birthday morning began with a special feature on Channel 6 News, allowing her to share her joy with the wider community.
“Centenarians of Oklahoma was proud to honor Blackwell resident, Ruby Park, and celebrate this incredible milestone,” said Peggy Barnett of Centenarians of Oklahoma.
