For Jordan Scott, caring for dogs isn’t just a job — it’s a lifelong passion that’s grown into a thriving small business right here in Blackwell. At just 28 years old, Scott has turned her love for animals into a full-fledged grooming operation that recently expanded to a new, larger location for So Fetch Dog Grooming at 407 N. Main.
Scott, a mother of two daughters, Oaklynn and Haven, says her journey began about a year and a half ago in a much smaller space. “I started this business with the intent to grow, and I have done just that,” she said with a smile. “I couldn’t do it without my amazing employee, April Hergenrader, who’s a godsend and a huge part of making this dream work.”
With over a decade of experience as both a groomer and veterinary technician, Scott brings skill and empathy to every pet she meets. Her shop welcomes dogs of all sizes — from tiny two-pound pups to over-100-pound gentle giants — and her approach centers on patience, trust, and a deep understanding of canine anatomy and behavior.
“I groom just about any breed, but my favorite is probably the standard poodle,” she said. “You can get really creative with their styles, and I have one myself — Burkley.”
At her shop, grooming goes far beyond the basics. Scott offers everything from nail trimming and teeth cleaning to creative grooming with pet-safe dyes and “fancy hairdos.” She even makes her own product mixtures, combining several brands to get just the right formula for clean, healthy coats.
Her love for animals is matched only by her love for the community she serves. “Blackwell is such a great town — it’s right in the center of all the small surrounding towns,” she said. “I have clients from Ponca, Tonkawa, Nardin, Deer Creek, Braman, Medford, Wakita, Cherokee, Kremlin, Pond Creek, and more.”
Scott’s vision for her business goes well beyond grooming. She hopes to eventually expand into a boarding facility and open a sister shop in a nearby town. She also plans to participate in local pet events, adoption drives, and fairs.
And while the road to success hasn’t been without challenges, Scott says her biggest hurdle was mental — overcoming the fear of failure. “Starting a business takes courage,” she shared. “The thought of failing scared me, but I realized I was meant for this. I started small, put in the work, and I’m still building every day.”
For Scott, each day brings new joy — and new furry faces. “I get a different dog and a different personality every day,” she said. “Watching them grow through the years and forming bonds with my clients means the world to me.”
To anyone dreaming of starting their own small business, Scott offers simple but heartfelt advice: “Believe in your vision, work hard, and stay connected to your community. Take the leap — your dream is worth chasing.”
