Disney unveils "Coco 2" , "Frozen 3", and new X-Men cast at D23
August 19, 2026
Another year of Disney’s fan event, D23, has come and gone, bringing with it some major announcements for the studio’s upcoming slate of films.
Among the biggest takeaways were reveals for Pixar’s The Incredibles 3 and Coco 2, the latter of which will also be featured in the upcoming Square Enix game Kingdom Hearts IV.
Disney also officially announced a live-action Lilo & Stitch 2, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that the 2025 film went on to gross $1 billion worldwide. That’s especially impressive considering the movie was originally planned as a Disney+ release, much like the Mouse House’s pandemic-era versions of Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp and Pinocchio.
Disney, apparently unfazed by the failures of several of its live-action adaptations—including the recent Moana and Snow White—also revealed the first look at its live-action Tangled.
On the Disney Animation side of things, Frozen 3 and Zootopia 3 were also revealed. The latter is particularly welcome news considering 2025’s Zootopia 2 was one of the best films of last year.
Disney’s Marvel news, however, is where things really got interesting.
Carrying the momentum of the $2 billion-grossing Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which featured X-Men character Jean Grey (Sadie Sink), Disney officially unveiled the cast of its hotly anticipated X-Men reboot, currently set for release in 2028.
The cast, so far, includes Sink as Jean Grey; Heartstopper star Kit Connor as team leader Cyclops; Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Emma Frost; Christopher Abbott (It Comes at Night) as Professor Xavier; Obsession breakout Inde Navarrette as Rogue; theater actress Maya Boyd as Storm; and Adam Driver as the film’s villain, Mr. Sinister.
X-Men is, without a doubt, the most intriguing project currently in the MCU pipeline. Director Jake Schreier, who helmed 2025’s Thunderbolts*, has already proven himself capable of managing a complex ensemble of characters, while writer Michael Lesslie has shown a knack for navigating angst, drama and romance through films such as 2016’s Assassin’s Creed, 2023’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and 2025’s Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.
If Marvel can successfully combine those strengths, this new incarnation of the X-Men could be exactly the shot in the arm the MCU needs—and easily one of Disney’s most exciting projects in years.
A healthy Kay County requires great community news.
