Blackwell High School construction class seeks equipment donations

Blackwell High School is asking community members to put their broken lawn equipment, power tools and small household appliances to use by donating them to students learning hands-on repair and maintenance skills.

The BHS Construction/Maintenance Class is seeking non-working equipment that students can safely disassemble, troubleshoot and potentially repair as part of their coursework.

Through the donated equipment, students will gain practical experience working with small engines, power tools and household appliances while learning how the equipment operates and how to diagnose mechanical problems.

School officials noted that donated items will be used strictly for educational purposes and will not be repaired and returned to their original owners.

Among the outdoor and power equipment currently being sought are lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, generators, power washers, tillers, air compressors, drills, saws and shop vacuums.

The class is also accepting smaller household appliances, including fans, microwaves, blenders, toasters, vacuums and ice makers.

Refrigerators and freezers cannot be accepted.

Donations may be dropped off at the Blackwell High School woodshop, which is the preferred method for delivering items. Those unable to transport an item to the school may contact BHS to make arrangements for pickup.

Organizers said the donations provide students with opportunities to develop real-world skills and gain experience that can translate to future careers and projects outside the classroom.
